Chrysalism
Chrysalism was written in the winter of 2017-2018 for the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet. The title means - the amniotic tranquility of being indoors during a thunderstorm. The piece builds upon a conflict between darker timbres (thunder-tubes and bass drum), and brighter timbres (metal pipes, bell plates, and crotales). The form of the work mirrors the passing of a thunderstorm, entering and then receding again into the distance. The video shown above is from the premiere performance, given by LAPQ.
Chrysalism received an honorable mention in the 2018-19 American Prize Competition (student division).
